Position Summary

Commense is looking for a talented microbiologist to translate discoveries in microbiology into new treatments for a range of applications relevant to maternal and infant health. The candidate will design studies to establish the role of the microbiome in maternal and infant diseases, isolate and cultivate bacteria, characterize bacteria and their bioactive products, develop bacterial assays and in vivo assays to evaluate molecular and cellular pathways of host-microbe interactions, validate novel targets for intervention, and design studies to assess the efficacy of drug candidates. The job title and level will be corresponding to education level, work experience, and skills of the selected candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • PhD or MD/PhD in microbiology, microbial genetics, or related area, with a focus on microbiome studies.
  • Research experience in isolation, cultivation, and characterization of anaerobic bacteria, microbiological assay development, molecular phylogenetic techniques, molecular biology and DNA sequencing techniques, and design of assays to study host-bacteria interactions and complex microbial communities.
  • Entrepreneurial and self-motivated work style.
  • Strong publication record.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good understanding of the human microbiome field preferred.
